Ryan and I snuck away for a night this past weekend and it was amazing. Truly amazing. We usually take one big trip a year that is adjacent to one of my work trips and that is typically in May. It had been over 6 months since we had both been away from the girls over night. Don't get me wrong, we love our girls and within hours we're checking on them but it sure was nice to get away.
We all got up bright and early Saturday and headed north. After dropping off Grandma and the girls at my brother and sister in law's house, we continued up to Minneapolis. We stopped and had a leisurely lunch before checking into our hotel which was adjacent to the Mall of America. To say it was busy would be an understatement but we braved the crowds to purchase a few Christmas gifts.
Sunday we headed to the Vikings/Bears game with Andy and Julie. I don't think we could have picked a better game! Everyone had a great time and the Vikings won!!! From there we started the long trek home but it was well worth it. It was a late night but the girls did well on the way home and slept for most of the drive.

Our Very Own Celebrity
Keep an eye out for Maci in the next few weeks. We found out last week she will be on KCCI Saturday, December 7th at 8:50am. Mark your calendars. She will be interviewed for the upcoming Jingle Bell Run. Luckily for us, there will be doctors from DMOS there as well to discuss how they treat arthritis. We aren't quite sure how this will go and we haven't really decided which of us parents will take her. Neither of us is excited about being on tv but realize that publicity is good for the arthritis foundation.
This upcoming Wednesday, we have a phone interview with the Des Moines Register. I've already warned the lady that Maci probably won't contribute too much to the conversation and she had little ones herself so she understood. I'll let you know when the article will be published.

Pumpkin Patch
Can't believe I almost forgot about the kindergarten pumpkin patch trip last week! I'd guess 40+ kindergarteners, 2 teachers and a handful of parents ventured on an hour long bus trip to Uncle Bill's. It's been awhile since I've been on a school bus. Not the ideal way to travel but we survived and from what I could tell, the kids were well behaved.
Each parent was assigned about 3 kids to keep an eye on. For someone like myself, this was a bit stressful. I can barely keep tabs on 2! Trying to get 3 five year old girls to agree on the same activity was difficult. Of course the other two girls were great and mine was the one whining.
Despite it being only in the high 30's and 20mph winds, I had a great day with Kenna. I loved seeing her interact with her friends and teacher. It's also always fun to see things through the eyes of a 5 year old every once in a while.

What have we been up to?
So what has the Brooker family been up to these days? It certainly does not feel like we've been doing anything. This month is flying by though and I can't believe Thanksgiving is right around the corner.
Wednesday Maci got her third and hopefully final set of tubes in her ears. I took her in for a cough and the doctor mentioned it looked like something might be wrong with the tube in her right ear. So we scheduled an appointment with our ENT. Within seconds of taking a peak, he said the existing tubes needed to come up and new ones needed to go in. It was less than a week later when she got her new set. We are right on track for one set of tubes a year.
As always, Maci was a super patient for the procedure. We were in and out in under an hour. It was amazing. It sounds like it was a good thing we were able to get in as quickly as we did. The ENT said her right ear was pretty bad and due to her weakened immune system, we'll be fighting this battle forever.
As for Kenna, she is playing basketball and shockingly, she likes it. She is one of the smallest out there but loves to sprint down the court and actually practices dribbling once in a while. We also got her very first report card on Friday. It was a good report and we are pretty proud of her.
